Rose and Deon’s Sunset Wedding at Makiti Lodge, Muldersdrift

Real Weddings / Johannesburg Wedding Venues
Makiti Lodge in Muldersdrift is one of the most peaceful and naturally beautiful wedding venues in the Cradle of Humankind. Rose and Deon dreamed of a celebration that felt relaxed, heartfelt, and full of quiet joy. Their day carried a soft, timeless feeling from the warm light in the chalet to their bubble filled exit outside the chapel.
Bridal Preparations at the Makiti Chalet
I met Rose in one of Makiti’s on site chalets where she was getting ready for the day. Soft natural light moved gently through the room, catching the details of her dress and creating a peaceful atmosphere. She wanted a relaxed and natural experience for her wedding, and that feeling was present from the moment I arrived.
Deon carried the same calm and steady presence. Both of them brought a quiet ease into the day, and it shaped the mood beautifully.
A Ceremony Full of Meaning at Makiti’s Traditional Chapel
The ceremony took place in Makiti’s Traditional Chapel at the Sunset Venue. The chapel filled slowly with soft music, warm light, and gentle conversations as guests arrived. There was a sense of anticipation in the air, the kind that feels full of emotion and significance.
When Rose walked through the chapel doors, the whole room softened. Her entrance set the tone for a deeply heartfelt ceremony.
Throughout the service, Rose and Deon included several symbolic moments that carried real meaning. Each lit a candle, then joined their flames to create one shared light. They took communion together, pausing for a quiet moment as husband and wife.
One of the most memorable parts was the salt ceremony. They each received a small bag of salt and poured their grains into one bowl. When the pastor asked Rose to take her grains back out again, she laughed gently and shook her head. It was a simple and unforgettable picture of two lives becoming one.
When the ceremony ended, Rose and Deon stepped outside as guests blew bubbles around them. Bright afternoon light caught the bubbles and made the whole moment feel joyful and full of celebration.
Golden Hour Portraits in the Makiti Gardens
Makiti Lodge’s gardens are wide, peaceful, and full of character. Open lawns, ivy covered corners, fountains, stone structures, and quiet walkways create endless opportunities for beautiful portraits.
After the ceremony, we wandered through the gardens as the light began to soften. Rose and Deon laughed together beneath the trees and paused near the water features and stone pillars that Makiti is known for.
The warm sunset light drifted through the gardens, giving everything a natural and romantic glow. These gentle, unscripted moments always become my favourite images of the day.
A Sunset Reception Filled With Warmth and Celebration
As the sun lowered, the Sunset Venue transformed into a warm and glowing space. Soft draping, candles, and fairy lights filled the room with atmosphere. The heat of the day settled into a comfortable evening breeze moving through the open doors.
Rose and Deon danced into the hall with wide smiles as guests cheered them in. The speeches that followed were filled with love, laughter, and heartfelt stories. With many older family members present, the words shared had real depth and tenderness.
Makiti’s team worked quietly and smoothly in the background, guiding everything with experience and care so the couple could relax and enjoy their evening.
Night Portraits in the Foyer Between Chapel and Reception
Before the night settled completely, we stepped out for a few final portraits. The softly lit foyer that joins the chapel and the reception hall created a warm and peaceful setting for evening images.
The gardens still held the last warmth of the day, and the quiet night added a gentle stillness to these final frames.
